Character Name: The Childlike Empress ("Moonchild")
Canon: The Neverending Story (book version!)
Canon Information: Die unendliche Geschichte
Canon Point: Shortly after summoning Bastian and receiving her name.
Age: Literally as old as human imagination. Appears to be a child of indeterminable age (between 13-15).
God Houses: Odin -- (This is the one Empress will pick). Empress is a wise figure who knows everything about everything that goes on in her world. She IS the world itself and enjoys learning all about the new things human children bring in, always looking to expand her knowledge.
Honir -- Empress is considered the goddess (or even the living embodiment) of imagination, who came into existence the first time a human used their imagination. The whimsy part would be a good fit for her.
World Information: Give us as much detail about your world as you feel necessary to paint a thorough background for your character. Consider this a combined history and world description section: tell us what your character has experienced due to the nature of your world. You don't need to write an entire novel, but we want to see a well thought out basis of origin for your character. Whatever you deem necessary; just be aware we may ask for revisions if we feel more detail is needed.
Personality: The Childlike Empress is a sweet, gentle young girl with more vast knowledge than you can shake a stick out. She is, quite literally, above good and evil, in the way of being a true and extremely neutral person. Good, evil; beauty and ugliness don’t matter to her and are all the same. Fantasia is made up of all sorts of fantasy creatures, from faeries and unicorns to giant spiders, werewolves and vampires. She never treats one above the other and because of that, all the subjects love her and even the ‘evil’ creatures are willing to help out anyone who represents her.
Despite this though, she is very, very alone. She is confined to the Ivory Tower and no one ever meets her more than once, with the exception of one or two people who work closely with her. Humans, too, are a wonder to her, as the only humans she meets are the children who come every once in a while to give her a name. She’s curious about them, but never gets far with that curiosity as there is always much more pressing matters to attend to. Although she never expresses much of it herself, Empress must be rather lonely living a life like this, though she never complains or thinks to change this. In this it could be said she's extremely dutiful, and sees her number one priority as Fantasia and the people that dwell within it.
Empress is also aware of her world being a book, and also has no reservations about letting a child use up all his or her memories until they become a mindless vegetable; they’re the ones who usually try to take the throne from Empress and become the ruler over her and once they’ve tried, used up all their memories, and ultimately failed, she takes AURYN back and pops them over to the City of Lost Emperors forever with a sigh and a disappointed shake of the head. This isn't to say that she is a cruel person, but rather one who loves her world and the people in it to the point of not being willing to interfere with a child going down the wrong path. It's not her place, after all; it's a lesson the child will have to learn themselves or not at all and regardless of what the child does, it will result in an interesting, new world of Fantasia. It doesn't matter to her if the wishes the child asks for are good or bad ones, because either way it's still dreaming and wishing, which is what she wants. AURYN even has the words written on the back "Do what you Wish," both a command and permission from Empress.
She is described as being 'ruthless' on occasion, especially when it comes to saving her world. This comes about in the conversation with the Old Man of the Wandering Mountain, when she orders him to read the story of Fantasia from the beginning. However since the old man writes everything that happens as it's happening, he'll be forced to loop through the entire story again and again, into infinity. This is done to trap Bastian, who's reading the story, into the same endless loop until he's forced to give the Empress a name like she wants. Fantasia is precious to her, not only because it's literally her/her life, but all of the creatures and stories found within it. She cares for them deeply and will do anything to save them, including trapping them in a time loop like that.
